Designing furniture is as much about the process as it is about the final form—a balance of material honesty, enduring quality, and thoughtful innovation. This philosophy is central to House of Nico Interiors, an emerging British brand founded by designer Nico Payne during his final year at Central Saint Martins.
With a degree in Product and Industrial Design, Nico brings both academic rigour and hands-on industry experience to his work. With broad experiences in international design practice, first with Copenhagen-based Better Weather, and later with New York designer Kouros Maghsoudi. Contributing to collections shown at both Milan and New York Design Weeks, Nico developed a nuanced understanding of design as both a craft and a discipline. Reinforced through working with Audi on a technical speculative design project considering future scenarios into designs.
This blend of instinct, training, and experience now informs House of Nico Interiors.
The brand is built on a belief that furniture should celebrate traditional forms without being bound by them. Each piece is a balance of past and present—natural materials such as European oak left raw and expressive, shaped into functional forms with a distinctive character.
At the centre of the current offering is a small but evolving range of ottomans. Simple in form, they feature exposed wood and unusually precise square-tapered legs—a detail rarely used due to the time required in production. Each ottoman is made to order and highly customisable, inviting clients to make the design their own through choices of fabric and scale.
Looking ahead, Nico is quietly developing a broader collection in collaboration with an internationally recognised fabric house. Though still under wraps, the project expands on the brand’s core ideas: traditional shapes, natural materials, and a modern sensibility—all crafted with care.
House of Nico Interiors is still in its early chapters, but the intention is clear: to create furniture that feels honest, original, and considered. These are pieces designed to bring individuality and warmth to any space—where craftsmanship isn’t a trend, but a foundation.

The careful reasoning behind our different sized ottomans:
Alba - 400 x 400
Latin for “white” or “dawn,” and also a poetic reference to Scotland. Light, elegant, and fresh — this evokes a soft presence in a space, without demanding attention.
Velum - 900 x 600
From Latin, meaning “sail” or “canopy.” Light, quiet, and stretched in form — fitting for a slightly wider piece that hovers lightly within a layered room.
Ostro - 1250 x 410
Inspired by “Auster,” the Latin name for the southern wind. Soft yet directional, it suits a piece that gently anchors the foot of a bed, in front of a sofa or the length of a wall.
Forum - 1m x 1m
Once the civic heart of a Roman city — a central square where life gathered. Apt for an ottoman that sits at the centre of domestic life, versatile and dignified.
Exta - 1650 x 540
From “extensus,” Latin for “stretched out” or “broad.” A quietly powerful form, ideal for expansive spaces — visually generous but not overwhelming.
